Adaptation

 Instead of accommodating ourselves to conditions we react against them and endeavor to change them to meet our wants and demands and modify them so that they will be accommodated to our purposes. 

Accommodation

We accommodate ourselves to conditions when we have no other recourse.

Acedia

Acedia is the "despair from weakness" which Kierkegaard analysed as the "despairing refusal to be oneself."

Affect

The basic process we call “emotion” is actually an aspect of a self-organizing emergent property reflecting changes in states of integration.

Appreciation

Appreciation is essentially the secular term for worship. Through appreciation one may ward off nihilistic despair and orient oneself toward more festive states.

Adjustment

Adjustment is an enduring modification of self which lasts through any amount of vicissitude of circumstances, internal and external.
